🍎 Food

Food words stick because they show up on a plate. This page is the English food list from the games. Use it at a meal, not as a long lesson after dinner when everyone is tired. Before the first bite, pick one food that is actually on the table and find it here. Say the word, then the sentence. If you have bread, use bread. If you have an apple, use apple. Water and milk count. You do not need pizza on the menu to learn pizza later. One real food today is enough.

Orange on this list is the fruit. The color word is a different lesson and is not in this theme. Rice is both the grain and the food on the plate in everyday English. Honey is a mass word: we say some honey, not a honey. The respelling is for reading the word aloud to a child who is still sounding English out.

Try the game

The flashcards open with English on one side and Spanish on the other, which is the usual pair when you start from the home page.

A verse to read together

Read this aloud if it fits your home. These words are Matthew 6:11 in the King James Version, a public-domain English Bible.

Give us this day our daily bread.
