👔 Professions
Job words make sense when a child can point to a person. This page is the short English list from the profession games: teacher, chef, doctor, farmer, musician, painter, cook, neighbor, friend, and nurse. It is short on purpose. On a walk or after an errand, match one real person to one line. The nurse at a clinic, the person who cooks at home, or a neighbor you actually know. Friend is on this list too, because the games keep it with the people words. Say the sentence about that person, then stop. You do not need costumes.
Chef and cook are two lines. In everyday English they overlap. Here chef is the job title and cook is the person who cooks. Neighbor is the person next door, not the idea of a neighborhood. Friend takes a in the sentence because it starts with a consonant sound. The semicolon you may notice is not in these sentences. The verse below keeps the semicolon that the King James printing uses, because the thought continues in the next verse, which is not quoted here.
The flashcards open with English on one side and Spanish on the other, which is the usual pair when you start from the home page.
A verse to read together
Read this aloud if it fits your home. These words are Colossians 3:23 in the King James Version, a public-domain English Bible.
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
